Several pieces of original Karla J Moore artwork are on display at the historic art cooperative, River Art Gallery in San Antonio, Texas.
Karla uses pencils, charcoal and paints, but as a metalsmith, most works incorporate metal in some way. With the exception of a charcoal drawing, the pieces in the gallery below involve copper.
Most acrylic paintings are on copper. Some copper plates are flat like a canvas, but others are hammered to varying degrees of relief. Some even have unique, handmade, custom-fitted handcrafted copper frames.
Painting with fire creates the most unique pieces. This technique involves heating the copper until it turns the desired color. Sometimes, it takes several passes with the torch to bring out just the right colors.
Finished pieces are sealed with Everbrite to preserve the colors and protect the artwork.

River Art Gallery
The River Art Gallery is a wonderful gem in the heart of San Antonio. It is located at 418 Villita Street in the historic artisan village of La Villita, just off the famed River Walk. You’ll find everything here from steampunk to fine paintings and everything in between – jewelry, photography, mixed media, woodworking and more. Too much to list here!
The River Art Group was established more than 75 years ago in the spirit of promoting local artists in the San Antonio area. There is no owner, so the artists staff and manage it. We keep it going and hand it off to the next generation of local artists.
The artists take turns working at the gallery, so you never know who you might meet there. We’re open every day of the week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Stop by and see us!
